Introduction
Hey all, my name is Paul Borosky, and I am the owner of Quality Business Plan.
Today, I’d like to give you all some tips and tricks on how to write your SWOT Analysis section for your Bar and Lounge Business Plan.
Overview
The way the video is going to work:
First, I’ll give you a little background about who I am, what I do, and why I do it.
Then, we’ll dive into the SWOT Analysis section for your bar and lounge business.
To demonstrate, I’ll use my Bar and Lounge Business Plan Template, available on my website, and show you how to update and structure each part.
About Me
As promised, a little bit about me—again, my name is Paul Borosky, MBA.
I’m a professional business plan writer, an adjunct professor, and a subject matter expert in business and finance.
If you want to avoid the “fun and excitement” of writing your own Bar and Lounge Business Plan, feel free to call, text, or email me—I’d be delighted to write it for you.
If you prefer to write it yourself, check out my business writing books on Amazon for guidance.
And if you need help with financial projections, I can create those for you as well.
SWOT Structure
When writing your SWOT Analysis, I recommend using a chart format.
SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats—broken into four sections.
-
Strengths and Weaknesses focus on the internal environment of your business.
-
Opportunities and Threats address the external environment—factors outside your control.
Strengths
For every two weaknesses, try to include four strengths.
Good areas to highlight:
-
Management experience (bartending or ownership background).
-
Documented plans (strategic, business, or marketing plans).
-
Theme or concept (sports bar, music lounge, etc.).
-
Differentiators (events, live music, trivia, etc.).
Weaknesses
Keep weaknesses general—you don’t want to raise investor red flags.
Examples include:
-
Startup learning curve.
-
Untested business model or new location.
Opportunities
Focus on external advantages such as:
-
Community involvement (sponsoring local sports teams).
-
Broad customer appeal (location convenience or theme).
-
Prime location or private parking.
Threats
Again, keep threats broad and industry-wide, not personal.
Examples include:
-
Local competitors.
-
Economic downturns.
Summary
To recap:
-
Strengths and Weaknesses = Internal.
-
Opportunities and Threats = External.
Maintain balance, stay general with negatives, and emphasize your advantages.
