Sales Help for Boynton Beach Owners
Are Your Boynton Beach Estimates Losing Jobs?
Clear beats cheap. The estimate a customer understands in thirty seconds wins more jobs than the one that is a little lower.
If your estimate is one number on a page, it is losing you jobs. Most estimates lose on clarity, not price. The customer cannot see what is included, what is not, when you start, or why you cost what you cost, so they pick the one they understand. Dr. Paul, Boynton Beach business consultant, helps you fix the estimate so you win more jobs at the same price.

Same Job, Same Price
Which Estimate Would You Sign?
Picture a homeowner with two estimates on the kitchen table. Same bathroom. Same total. One of them gets the job.
The losing estimate
Estimate: Bathroom
- Work
- Bathroom remodel per discussion.
- Notes
- Call with questions.
Total: $14,800
The winning estimate
Hall Bathroom Refresh
- You told us
- The tub leaks at the wall and the tile is cracked.
- We will
- Remove tub, wall tile, and vanity; haul away debris. Install new tub, tile to the ceiling, vanity, and toilet. Final clean and walkthrough with you.
- Not included
- Drywall or paint outside the bathroom.
- Timeline
- Start within two weeks of signing. About eight working days.
- Payment
- Deposit at signing, progress payment at tile, balance at walkthrough.
- Next step
- Reply YES to hold your start date. Price good for thirty days. License number on file below.
Total: $14,800
Illustration only. A made-up job to show format, not a real Boynton Beach price.
The second estimate does not cost a dollar less. It just answers every question the customer was going to ask a competitor. That is the whole game.

Eight Parts. Most Estimates Have Two.
The typical estimate has a description and a total. Here is what the one that wins shows the customer.
The problem, in their words
Open by restating what the customer told you. It proves you listened, and nobody else will do it.
Scope, line by line
Every task on its own line. The customer should be able to picture the job from start to finish.
What is not included
Say it out loud. It prevents fights later and makes the cheaper quote look thin by comparison.
Options
Two or three versions turn the question from whether to hire you into which version to pick.
Timeline
When you can start and how long it takes. For many customers, this beats price.
Payment terms
Deposit, progress, final. No surprises, no awkward phone calls.
Proof
License number, insurance, and one photo or review of similar work.
The next step and an end date
Tell them exactly how to say yes, and how long the price holds.
You learned the trade, not the paperwork. That is normal, and it is exactly the side Dr. Paul helps owners build: you keep doing the work you are great at, and he helps you turn the estimate into a sales tool. Build it once as a template and every future estimate takes minutes. For the marketing thinking behind it, see Dr. Paul’s small business marketing guide; this page is one of twenty sales and marketing questions on the South Florida business consultant pillar.
Estimating in Boynton Beach
What a Boynton Beach Estimate Should Carry
An estimate is also a bid, and in Palm Beach County bidding on many trades takes the right credentials. Put them on the page.
- Palm Beach County Contractors Certification Division. The County’s notice lists the construction trades that need a county Certificate of Competency to advertise, bid, or contract, from general and residential contractors to electrical, plumbing, roofing, and pool work. State-certified contractors are governed by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Your license number on the estimate answers the trust question before it is asked.
- City of Boynton Beach Business Tax Receipt. The City says all new businesses, including home-based businesses, must obtain one before commencing work, and receipts are renewed each year by September 30. Business Tax is part of the Development Services Department.
- Boynton Beach CRA grants. The Community Redevelopment Agency lists grant programs for businesses inside the CRA district, and in December 2025 WFLX reported the CRA still had $450,000 available across three small business grants: property improvement, rent reimbursement, and marketing. Eligibility rules apply, so check with the CRA directly.
- Florida SBDC at FAU. Florida Atlantic University’s Small Business Development Center serves Broward and Palm Beach Counties, with a Palm Beach County office in Boca Raton.

Dr. Paul’s Insight: Your Estimate Is a Brochure
“I have a brochure. It’s a good brochure. Why would I need a new one?”
Dr. Paul’s take: An estimate is the one piece of sales material every customer actually reads. Like that owner’s brochure, it tends to go years without a fresh look because it still seems to work. It works exactly the way it always did, which means it loses the same jobs it always lost. Look at yours the way a Boynton Beach homeowner sees it, next to two others on the kitchen table. If it is not the clearest one there, it is the one being set aside. The collateral card in Dr. Paul’s marketing guide covers how to refresh the material customers hold in their hands.
Red-Flag Check
Your Estimate Is Losing Jobs If…
Pull up the last estimate you sent. Check it against this list. Be honest.
- It is one number with nothing under it.
- It took more than two business days to send.
- It uses trade words the customer has to look up.
- It never says what is not included.
- It has no expiration date and no next step.
- It looks exactly like it did years ago, and nobody has questioned it since.
Two or more flags? Fix the estimate before you touch your price. Cutting price on a confusing estimate just gives away margin and still loses the job. If you want to know what each job actually earns you, Dr. Paul’s small business accounting and finance guide walks through job margins step by step. Or bring the estimate to a business consulting session and rebuild it together.
Who Reads Your Estimate
Who Reads Boynton Beach Estimates, and What They Look For
Census Bureau survey data for 2024 puts the median age in Boynton Beach at 46.6 and the median value of an owner-occupied home at $372,800. That is a buyer with a lot to protect.
- Careful homeowners. A homeowner guarding a home worth that much may read every line, call with questions, and show your estimate to a family member before saying yes. Plain words and a clear scope answer those questions before the call.
- Permits and inspections. The City’s Building Department handles permit issuance, plan review, and inspections, with permits filed through its SagesGov portal, and it offers homeowners tips on hiring a licensed contractor. If the job needs a permit, say on the estimate who pulls it and where inspections fall in the timeline.
- A City marketing grant. The City’s Economic Development team lists a Small Business Marketing Grant of up to $2,500. Check eligibility before you count on it for new sales materials.
A permit line and an inspection date cost you nothing to add. They may be exactly what makes your estimate the one a careful buyer trusts.
