Why Good South Florida Businesses Go Quiet

When everyone is starting a business, being good at the work is the price of entry. It is not the reason a customer picks you.

4,862small business applications per 100,000 residents in Miami-Dade, 2024, No. 1 among large U.S. counties studied
3,602per 100,000 in Broward, No. 3
20cities, one marketing or sales question each

Read those numbers again. Miami-Dade led the large counties in the country for new small business applications, and Broward was third. Every one of those new owners is buying the same ads, posting on the same apps, and promising the same thing: quality, fast, fair price. The customer cannot tell them apart. So the customer picks the cheapest one, or the first one who calls back.

That is a marketing problem and a sales problem, and they are different. Marketing is getting the phone to ring. Sales is turning the call into a customer, and the customer into a second sale. Most South Florida owners Dr. Paul talks to have one of them working and the other one broken. The twenty questions on this page sort out which.

Anything for Anyone

Dr. Paul’s Fabled Forest Business School Series · Book 4, Chapter 1

WE HAUL ANYTHING FOR ANYONE. ANY TIME. ANY PLACE.

“You saw it, right? Six hundred. Every door in the forest.” She tapped it. “Anything for anyone.”

Dr. Paul’s take: Six hundred flyers and a quiet phone. That raccoon is half the owners in South Florida. When the market is this crowded, talking to everyone means nobody hears you. The fix is picking who you are for and saying it so plainly that the right customer stops scrolling. Dr. Paul builds that with owners through his Organize-Plan-Grow™ Strategy.

Marketing and Sales Questions From South Florida Owners

What does a South Florida business consultant do for marketing and sales?
Dr. Paul finds out whether the problem is getting customers to call or getting callers to buy, then helps you fix that part first. That can mean a focused marketing plan, clearer messaging, a better estimate, a follow-up routine, or a sales process your team can repeat.
Which South Florida cities does Dr. Paul serve?
All of Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Monroe counties, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Hialeah, and Key West. Work is done by phone and video, so the commute is never part of the bill.
What is the difference between a marketing consultant and an agency?
An agency runs your marketing. A consultant figures out what your marketing should be and whether it is working. Many owners use Dr. Paul first, then hire an agency with a clear plan and a way to measure it.
I am great at my trade but terrible at selling. Where do I start?
Start with what you already do well: tell Dr. Paul how your best customers found you and why they stayed. That story is usually the marketing message. Then build a simple follow-up routine so no inquiry goes unanswered. Most trade owners do not need to become salespeople. They need a process that does the selling for them.

Find the leak first. Then fix it.
